Trek to Patalsu Peak: Trekking near Manali
Patalsu Peak is located in the beautiful hill station of Manali. This trek is very easy to perform and even beginners can go for this. The trek starts from Solang Valley which is 14 kms away from the main town of Manali. Although this trek is a low altitude trek and is not so difficult, it gives you mesmerising views of Manali from the top.
How to Reach
By air, the nearest airport is Bhuntar which is at a distance of just 10 kms from Manali. Flights are available from all the major cities of the country to Manali. The nearest railhead is Jogindernagar which would take another 4-5 hours to reach Manali which is 165 kms away.
The most cost-effective and used way to reach Manali is by road. Buses are easily available from nearby major cities like Delhi and Chandigarh. Distance from New Delhi to Manali is 530 kms whereas from Chandigarh it is around 310 kms.
Most of the buses operate from Delhi to Manali at night which make you reach in the next morning. Even from Chandigarh, it would take 8-9 hours to reach Manali.
After reaching Manali, you can take a taxi for Solang Valley. Solang valley is 14 kms away from the main Manali and one can reach there before an hour. The hike starts from Solang valley.
One cannot doubt the ability of winters of Manali. In summers, the climate is pleasant. The average temperature is around 25 degrees. In winters, the temperature drops below zero degrees and snowfall is a common phenomenon in this region. There is heavy snowfall at times and therefore trek in winters become difficult.
Best Time to Visit
There is no time as the best time to visit a hill station like Manali. The summers and winters have their equal beauty. Those who love refreshing summer weather can visit here in summers. Those who love snow should visit this place in winters. In winters the region is covered in dense snow and Patalsu peak is an affair of beauty beyond words.
Manali to Solang Nallah
The first day you will have to reach Manali and then head on to Solang Valley. The valley has a village named Solang village which is the starting point of the trek. You will cross the Beas river and reach the campsite. Camp at the Solang village overnight near the river bank. You may trek to nearby places which would help you to acclimatise to the weather.
Solang Nallah to Sagadugh
The next morning you will start the trek from Solang Nalla and head towards Sagadugh. The climb is steep and would not be difficult at all. The climb is steep and into the oak and pine forest. The forest is full of Himalayan birds some of which might be in the endangered category.
After trekking for 4-5 hours you will reach Sagadugh which is a beautiful alpine grassland where you will camp for this night.
Sagadugh to Patalsu Peak
We will continue trekking towards Patalsu Peak the following morning. Have breakfast and prepare yourself for the most beautiful vies of Dhauladhar and Great Himalayan ranges. The initial path is through the forest of Oak and Conifers. After an hour of trekking, then the trail becomes rocky and difficult.
After almost 4 hours of trekking, you will reach Patalsu peak which is at a height of 13,845 feet. The views you get are awesome, capture the beauty of Himalayan peaks and spend time appreciating this alluring part of the planet. Descend back to Sagadugh and the camping will be at Sagadugh campsite itself.
Back to Solang Nallah and Manali
Start your journey early in the morning towards Solang Nallah from Sahadugh. Once you are back to Solang, you can take vehicles and drive back to Manali and proceed towards your place
The trek for Patalsu peak starts from Manali and ends at Manali. This trek for 2 nights and 3 days may cost you around INR 4,000 to 6,000. If you are taking a package from your place then it may cost you more.
