Pin Parvati Pass Trek: Embrace Adventure!
The state of Himachal has tons of beautiful valleys and mountains and one such is Pin Parvati Pass. Pin Parvati Pass trek is very famous among the trekkers.
This Pin Parvati Trek connects the Parvati valley in Kullu to Pin Valley in Spiti. Both the valley have their region of utmost charm. This trek covers around 100 kms of trekking distance with a maximum altitude of 17,450 ft. The whole thrilling experience of crossing Pin Parvati Pass lasts for 8 days.
How to Reach
The Trek starts from Barshaini which is located in Kullu Manali district. Manali is located around 510 kms away from New Delhi and can be reached overnight. First, you need to reach Manali. Most of the buses start from New Delhi in the evening time and drop you at Manali by the morning before 8.
Once you reach Manali, you have to proceed towards Barshaini. From Manali, Barshaini is at a distance of around 90 kms and can be reached 3-4 hours. Barshaini is the base for many trekking destinations like Kheerganga Trek, Bhun Bhuni Trek and some more. This is the place from where the trek to Pin Parvati Pass begins.
In the early months of the year, there is heavy snowfall and the whole region is closed because of no accessibility. This snow melts by the month of July. The valley of Kullu- Manali is under the influence of monsoon in these months but in Spiti, the climate is warm and sunny during the day.
During the month of September and October, trekkers can experience pleasant weather with a temperature of around 12 to15 degrees in the day time and the nights are colder with temperature 0 to -5 degrees.
Best Time to Do
The best time to go for Pin Parvati Trek is from the month of June to September. Snow remains in this valley till the month of April and May. From June to September you will get the best views of the valley. Make sure that you are physically fit to do it.
Manali to Barsheni and Kalga
For starting this trek, you have to reach Manali first. From Manali, you will proceed toward Barsheni village. Barshaini is the base camp for many other treks too. The trekking will start from Barshaini and you have to reach Kalga village which you can complete in half an hour. You will be staying in Kalga the first night.
Kalga to Kheerganga
The second day you will start from Kalga in the morning towards Kheerganga. You will get a gorgeous glimpse of Parvati river. It will take around 5-6 hours to trek to Kheerganga as the distance is around 10 kms. There are Maggie and snack point at on the way with beautiful forest views
At kheerganga, there is a temple of Lord Shiva and a hot spring. It is called as Kheerganga as the hot spring emerging as kheer( a sweet dish of milk). Take a dip in the holy bath and enjoy the spiritual ambience. Camping will be done at Kheerganga only.
Kheerganga to Tunda Bhuj
The trek from Kheerganga to Tunda Bhuj is a steady climb. You get to see the awesome view of the Parvati river coming down from the mountains. Nature here is beautiful with chirping birds and green meadows. After half an hour of trekking, you will reach green meadows all around you.
As you will ascend upward the area will become hilly and you will be able to see a wider and alluring view of the Parvati Valley. It will take 5-6 hours to reach the Tunda Bhuj. Tunda Bhuj is situated at an altitude of 10, 500 ft above the sea level. The mesmerising sight from Tunda Bhuj will make your day.
Tunda Bhuj to Thakur Kuan
This part of the trek gives you the prettiest views of them all. You will come across alpine pasturelands and lovely flowers all around complementing with all the greenery. There are hundreds of spots for beautiful sceneries. You will have to cross some tough bridges and inclined rocky land. After crossing the Pandu bridge, walk towards the Parvati river through the fields. By the evening you will reach Thakur Kuan which is situated at an altitude of 11,000 ft above the sea level.
Thakur Kuan to Odi Thach
This day will be full of adventure. You won’t get tired much as trekking is easier on this day. There are multiple streams on the way. Parvati river will be flowing on your left which looks very attractive. You will continue trekking into the forest area. There are many water points where one can refill his or her bottle. We will be camping in Odi Thach this night, it is one of the windiest campsites.
Odi Thach to Mantalai Lake
The distance of Odi Thach to Mantalai lake is 12 kms and it will take around 7-8 hours of trekking to complete this. This trail is a little muddy which can be slippery at times. After this muddy area, there is a steep ascent which should be completed with great attentiveness. Mantalai lake is the starting point of the Parvati River and there is a small temple near it. The campsite is half an hour away from Mantalai Lake.
Mantalai Lake to Summit Camp
After crossing the Mantalai lake, the trekking is through high rocky areas and glacier. Now, you have to climb towards the right side of the slope. It takes around 9-10 hours, it takes you to an altitude of 14,580 feet. The part of the trek is difficult with steep rocks. The base camp is full of greenery and big glacier. Rest tonight at the base camp with a scrumptious dinner.
Summit Camp to Bedu Thatch
This day, you are going to enter the Spiti Valley. The trail is now upward surrounded by glacier and rocks in front of you. After 3 hours of climbing, you will arrive at the top of the pass at an altitude of 17,500 feet. You can interpret the way of Pin Valley from here and move towards Shrikhand Mahadev. The path will go through dense forest and wild areas. The base camp is located between three valleys. You will have an amazing view of the ranges of Dibibokri and Kulu Makalu which looks very attractive as they are completely covered by snow.
Pin Base to Tiya
The distance between Pin Base and Tiya is around 12 kms. The trek is easier and on a gradual descent. You will observe that it is a barren land surrounded by tall mountains. The temperature at night gets really cold. Warm up yourself well so that harsh cold doesn’t affect you.
Tiya to Mud Drive to Kaza
This is the last day of trekking and we will be trekking to Mud which is the last village of Pin Valley. From Mud, we will drive to Kaza. Rest for a day in Kaza and roam around in the town. Next day you will leave for Manali in the early morning and reach Manali by the evening.
Most of the people start their trek from Manali and end it in Manali too. You have to travel to Manali from your position and when coming back, book your tickets in advance from Manali to your place.
The average package of Pin Parvati pass trek is between INR 25,000 to 35,000. You can carry your own trekking accessories or rent them from Manali. You can also join a guide if you want, it would cost you less but you will have to take responsibility for your food and camping.
