Expedition Detail

First, you have to reach Dharamshala from where you get a bus to Mcleodganj. Mcleodganj is at a distance of 7 kms from Dharamshala. You can get an overnight bus from Delhi or Chandigarh to Dharamshala and from there board a local bus or taxi to Mcleodganj or Dharamkot.

In Mcleodganj, the starting point of the trek is in Dharamkot. Dharamkot can be reached in half an hour from the main market of Mcleodganj. There are two routes to trek to Triund, one through the Galu Devi Temple and another one is through Bhagsu waterfall.

We usually take the former one. The whole trek is of 9 kms and you can easily climb it in 4-5 hours. You will be getting guesthouses before starting the trek where you can rest for a while and freshen up. The trek will start at and you will pass through forests. The trail is easy and moderate. You can have tea and snacks at the points present on the way.

You will reach Triund Campsite by the evening where you will get evening snacks. Enjoy the beauty of the hills. Capture its beauty relish in the sunset which is worth witnessing! You can pitch your tents and have your dinner before you go to sleep in the lap of the hills.

Wake up early the next morning because you cannot miss the magical sunrise that all witness at Triund. Witness the morning beauty of the Dhauladhar ranges surrounding you.  Breakfast will be given at the campsite and then all will trek back to Dharamkot.

There are two ways to descend back as well, one is through the Bhagsu waterfall and another one is the same we took the day before. You can enjoy some time at Bhagsu waterfall in case you take that route. You will reach Mcleodganj by the evening which is the end of the tour.

Quick Contact

Triund Trek is completely safe for everyone. If you are travelling solo to Mcleodganj, you should join a guide who may include you in a group. No guide takes a solo traveller, they make a group of travellers which is a common thing at Triund.

Snowfall starts in the months of late December and lasts up to the month of March. If you are the one who loves snow trekking, it would be a paradise for you but for the beginners, the trek becomes difficult at this time.

Most of the trekkers coming are part of a group. These groups carry along with them washroom tents which are safe and clean. If you are still uncomfortable, you can ask for permission to the only guesthouse present there.

Ofcourse yes! There can be no better trek to start your trekking with! If you think you are healthy enough to trek for 7 kms in a day, you must go for  Triund only.

Carry good trekking shoes or you can take them on rent. If travelling in winters, carry a good amount of clothes and raincoat along with a trekking stick. Also, carry a good camera for capturing mesmerising Dhauldhar ranges.

Triund Trek is open throughout the year unless there is heavy snowfall and reaching the campsite becomes impossible for trekkers

Yes, a guide is necessary for Triund trek. It may be a one day trek but it is impossible for those travelling alone to find the routes. You can do it alone but it is not advised. It is better to hire a guide at Mcleodganj which would definitely cost you less.

The area at Triund campsite is under the authorisation of all the people who own their camps there. You may do it for the sake of fun but it would not be good if people living there do not allow you for the same later. It is better to join a group and enjoy all the amenities.
